Synopsis

Bardo Thodol, or The Tibetan Book of the Dead, was first published in 1927 and is meant to be a guide for the dead, the dying, and the living. An esoteric doctrine that examines existence after death, and the conditions of rebirth, the text shows how Tibetan Buddhist concepts of karma and nirvana are manifested in the different Buddhas in the Tibetan pantheon.

This edition is prepared by Dr. Evans-Wentz, who spent years studying under a Tibetan lama. With a foreword by the acclaimed Sir John Woodroffe, author of Tantric text The Serpent Power, and detailed psychological commentary by Dr. Carl Jung, it is useful not only for reading the primary text, but also provides interpretations and analyses of The Book of the Dead.
