About the book:

An engaging, easy-to-read account of life in Singapore in the early 1930s written by the grandson of the first Attorney General of Singapore, Sir Thomas Braddell. The writer, Roland Braddell, lived in Tanjong Katong and was very attached to his neighbourhood, and Singapore in general. With 39 illustrations, including numerous photographs. An overview of the history of Singapore, as well as life in the 1930s. Photographs of the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, Raffles Place, Sultan Mosque and others prove, contrary to popular opinion, that some things in Singapore really haven’t changed all that much.

About the author:

Roland Braddell was born in Singapore and was the grandson of Sir Thomas Braddell (after whom Braddell Road is named), the first Attorney General of Singapore. He was a scholar and lawyer who was involved in both the academic and political development of Singapore and Malaya, having played a prominent role in establishing the Federation of Malaya in 1948.
