John Gullick has worked for the last 45 years on the history of Malaya (as it then was) in the second half of the nineteenth century. His work has been concentrated on the history of Selangor, and more particularly Kuala Lumpr. Much of his work has been published in the Journal of the Malaysian Branch of Royal Asiatic Society.

His A History of Kuala Lumpur, 1956-1939 draws together all of his earlier work on this subject, and additionally incorporates his new and previously unpublished work on the period of the city’s history from the turn of the century to 1939.
