LONELINESS

Alas! You have gone away,
Leaving me along ‘mid London fogs.
I tremble like a man in a fever,
Who suffers in a vast haunted room,
Where the first has died in the grate.

THE FIRST MESSAGE FROM HOME

The first message from my homeland
Saddened me with new of my sister’s death,
Leaving her immortal love to a crying babe.

I had heard no complaint from her lips;
She was so tender and soft in heart;
And now she has gone, never to return.

A NEW FORM OF SUICIDE

Should I plan to die,
I might jump out of a plane
Soaring in deep skies.
Quite a good up-to-date stunt!
So I thought, up in the air.
