About the book (from Introduction):
This book is intended to be a brief introduction to a fascinating and virtually inexhaustible subject. Of the 900 butterfly species recorded from Malaya, we can describe only a selection, concentrating upon about a hundred species which the collector is most likely to encounter on his earlier rambles, and giving some hint of the treasures which await him when he ventures farther into the jungle. A few species, so beautiful or otherwise remarkable that they are famous the world over, have been included although they are not very common; but for the most part the commoner species have been preferred.
