The mysterious Shelton translation, reproduced for the first time since it was dug out from the mists of time by a stroke of luck. This is the first translation of Don Quixote into any language, and its strange origins (among a host of other reasons) have prompted some to declare that Cervantes was in fact Francis Bacon writing under a pseudonym.

About Don Quixote:

Don Quixote, fully titled The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha (Spanish: El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha), is a novel written by Miguel de Cervantes.

Published in two volumes a decade apart (in 1605 and 1615), Don Quixote is one of the most influential books of the past 400 years. As a founding work of modern Western literature, it regularly appears high on lists of the greatest works of fiction ever published.  In a 2002 list, Don Quixote was cited as the “best literary work ever written”.
