Title: Hebrew Melodies, Poems, Manfred, Monody, The Lament of Tasso, Beppo
Author: Lord Byron
Publisher: John Murray, 1815 to 1818. Impossibly rare, possibly unique copy of Byron’s earliest editions bound together.
Condition: Hardcover, full leather. In very good condition. Recently rebound, cleaned, with new marbled endpapers inserted. An exceptional book. The only ‘flaw’ is very mild spotting and soiling in places.
Several of Byron’s very early poems were released in loose sheets with half-titles and end advertisements meant to be bound together. This copy contains all of the following bound together:
Hebrew Melodies (1815) – first edition, either first or second issue. Impossible to tell which because the ads at the end were not bound with the book.
Poems (1816) – first edition, either first or second issue.
Monody on the Death of The Right Honourable RB Sheridan (1817) – ‘New Edition’ (which is the second edition)
Manfred (1817) – second edition
The Lament of Tasso (1818) – sixth edition
Beppo (1818) – sixth edition
Each of these editions is rare in itself, but a collection bound together is very rare indeed. Issued when Byron was at the height of his fame as a poet.
