A comprehensive account of Malaya, including Borneo. In this book, Major C. M. Enriquez, who was posted to Malaya in 1926, gives a rather complete overview of the place, covering its natural history, political history, ethnography, and contemporaneous issues such as piracy. The book is written in point form, with each paragraph being numbered, making referencing very easy. Much of it draws upon previous works such as Wallace’s Malay Archipelago and Skeat’s Pagan Races of the Malay Peninsula.

In his Preface the author admits to writing this work as a means to better understand Burma, where he once lived and married, and where he would later settle for the rest of his life. He also confesses that his research into Malaya does not contribute much to his knowledge of Burma. Nevertheless, the book contains many references and comparisons with Burma, in particular, his important work Races of Burma.
