Title: Night Over Java
Author: Johan Fabricius
Publisher: William Heinemann, 1944. 1st edition.

About the book (from jacket flap):

Months after organised resistance had ceased, a hero of the East Indian Army inspires a mixed band, Dutch Eurasian and Native, to follow him blindly in guerrilla warfare against the Japanese. The author of Son of Marietta and Malayan Tragedy can indeed do justice to the story of such a man, displayed as it is against the grand and lovely landscape of Java, with its green jungle and glittering rice-fields silhouetted by the distant volcanoes.

About the author (from Wikipedia):
