A book of tales and reminiscences by an English journalist who was born in India, and who went back to India after a short spell in the UK. This entertaining book describes his childhood in India, where he grew up reading the Ramayana and was not allowed to speak English until the age of 6, and contains anecdotes from his life as a journalist in India later on. In some chapters he describes the political or economic situation in various parts of India, but always through the lens of the man on the street and not as an academic or analyst.
