About the book:

A beautiful little book on Java, which is part of the “Peeps at Many Lands” series published by Adam and Charles Black in the early 1900s. Meant to give young people an overview of different countries in the world, each book in the series describes the scenery, culture and society of the location in a fun, easy-to-read manner, and is illustrated with colour prints.

“Java” contains interesting accounts of the different parts of Java, including Surabaya, Central Java, and Kediri, along with descriptions of the inhabitants of each area. There are also descriptions of the volcanoes, palaces, and ruins, with little-known facts such as dwarf bodyguards and the types of native poisons.
