Description
This manner of composition, which sets aside a space at the top for an inscription, by means of small arcs strung together horizontally, goes with the rest of the Ancient Poem series of Harunobu which amount to about 100 prints. This one is his inter-pretation of the classical poem credited to Kino Tomonori. The picture lyrically captures the love hidden in the heart of the woman in mauve, standing deep-hearted in the snowy twilight enduring the cold breeze from the river bed. The little girl is curious-eyed as much as to ask where in the world her mistress is going.
