From jacket flap:

Heard and Seen in India reveals a sympathetic understanding of the Telugu people in particular, and the people of India in general. Religious and social conditions have been laced, the raw spots of the ancient religious and social systems based thereon have been laid bare, and the universal remedy indiciated.

This year the Baptist missions of South India are observing their centennial. It is therefore eminently fitting that a book about this mission, studied from historical records as well as from personal observation, should be forthcoming.

About the author (from jacket flap)

30 years ago the author began his labors among the Telugu people in South India. When he speaks of conditions in India he therefore speaks as one who knows.

Mr. Schugren was born in Sweden but arrived in this country as a youth. In the Swedish department of the University of Chicago Divinity School he began his education, which is still progressing. Among other acquirements has been that of an exception linguistic facility. In Telugu he is regarded as an authority, having written a number of books in that language and having brought into being a new translation of most of the New Testament. At present he is working on a revision of the Telugu Union Bible.

As a missionary in the Gurzalla field Mr. Schugren has had the rare experience of seeing the caste system of India beginning to crumble. 32 different castes are now represented among the 6000 members of the Baptist churches under his supervision.
