Title: Plays of William Shakespeare.

Volume IX: Troilus & Cressida, Coriolanus, Julius Caesar
Volume XII: Romeo & Juliet, Comedy of Errors, Titus Andronicus, Pericles

Author: William Shakespeare, Isaac Reed (ed), unknown engraver (illus)
ISBN: –
Publisher: Vernor, Hood & Sharpe, 1809. Extremely rare, especially in the full-leather format.
Condition: Hardcover, full leather. Exterior well-worn, boards re-attached to spine. Fragile, but can be read without a problem. Interior is in incredible condition: probably never read. All edges gilt. With several rather macabre engravings by an unknown hand.

A note: these books were printed for the bookstore of Thomas Hood, the father of Thomas Hood the poet. There is a very high possibility that these books were sold at the bookstore in 1809 while the poet Thomas Hood was growing up there (the bookshop and the Hood residence were in the same building)! He would have been 10 years old when his father requested for these books to be printed for his bookshop—which makes these books an authentic slice of history.

From wikipedia:

William Shakespeare (26 April 1564 – 23 April 1616) was an English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England’s national poet and the “Bard of Avon”. His surviving works, including some collaborations, consist of about 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and several other poems. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.
