About the author:

Dr. Tregonning (1923-2015) was a renowned scholar of Malaya and Singapore, and was a Raffles Professor of History at the University of Singapore. He was also a member of the Royal Asiatic Society for most of his life, and lived in Singapore for about 14 years. He wrote many books on the region, including Home Port Singapore, Straits Tin, Papers on Malayan History as well as his memoirs entitled Merdeka and Much More.
