The diary of a British officer who was captured in Singapore as a Prisoner of War when the British surrendered, and who was interned until the war ended. From Singapore, he was sent to work on the Thai-Burma railway. Throughout this time, he kept a diary in secret, and hid the diary by burying it, retrieving it after the war ended.

From the foreword:

The Author has written, in the main, of the experiences of a body of men, who were taken prisoner by the Japanese when Singapore fell in February, 1942. These men, after a short period in Changi, were moved to a working camp in Singapore and some months later thence to Thailand where they slaved to build until its completion the Thai-Burma railway, which has been very aptly referred to as the Railway of Death. The majority then languished in base camps in Thailand until the capitulation of the Japanese in August, 1945, and the remnants were then repatriated home.
